Why Does Anyone Engage with Phyllis on Young and the Restless?
What Danny and Christine should have done.

On the October 16 episode of The Young and the Restless, Phyllis baited Christine and Danny about their upcoming marriage, throwing in Christine’s face the fact that Phyllis once broke up their first marriage — using a child, Daniel, who turned out not to be Danny’s biological child. Phyllis seemed oddly proud of her achievement and unfazed by the fact that she had obviously failed, since Danny and Christine were about to get married. Christine gave back as good as she got, but it, nonetheless, got us wondering… why does anyone bother responding to Phyllis’ insane ranting?
Key Takeaways
- Phyllis made a very weird flex.
- Christine doesn’t have to answer her.
- Sally, Billy, Audra, Sharon, Jack, Diane, Nikki, and Victor can all just… walk away.
Pride Goeth Before the Fall
Phylllis (Michelle Stafford) sounded so proud when she bragged about being a groupie whom Danny (Michael Damian) slept with on the road while married to Christine (Lauralee Bell). Um… is that something to be truly proud about? She self-owned being his sidepiece, that Danny was still in love with his wife, and that he only left her because of Daniel, a boy he believed to be his. So she was taunting Christine about Phyllis being… a loser?
Places in the Heart
We realize that Genoa City consists of some six rooms, and that a coffeehouse, a restaurant, and one corner of the park draw the majority of the population like moths to a flame. But, still, we’ve got to ask: Can’t those who Phyllis descends upon, simply, you know… walk away? Christine realized she shouldn’t have engaged, and said as much to Danny.
By the same token, when Phyllis reminds Sally (Courtney Hope) and Billy (Jason Thompson) that they are failures in business while she, Phyllis, is a success (who are you going to believe, Phyllis or her actual employment status), when Phyllis taunts Audra (Zuleyka Silver) about being a social climbing wannabe (takes one to know one?), when she shimmies in front of Diane (Susan Walters) and Jack (Peter Berman), confident that Jack still loves his ex more than he could ever love his current wife, when she baits Sharon (Sharon Case), and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), and Victor (Eric Braeden), couldn’t they just get up… and leave? Don’t feed the trolls, Genoa City. Don’t feed the trolls….
