Emmerdale star Frazer Hammill, 41, ‘took own life after being questioned by police’
The actor passed away on December 30 of last year

An inquest into the death of former Emmerdale actor, Frazer Hammill, has revealed that he took his own life, following an arrest and police interview.
Frazer died on 30 December 2025, mere hours after he was arrested by Lancashire Police.
Prior to taking his own life, he left a note for his neighbours, instructing them not to enter, but call the police as he had taken his own life.
Coroner Louise Slater said: ”Frazer Hammill passed away at his home on December 30. He was a single man, an actor, and very close to his family members’
She concluded that his medical cause of death was ‘1a hanging’. She also said that, due to the presence of a note: ‘I am satisfied that this was a deliberate act and Frazer had put thought, planning and intention into his actions.’

Both police and paramedics attended Frazer’s flat, arriving at just after 2pm.
He could not be resuscitated and his time of death was recorded at 2.13pm.
Custody officers, speaking to Doncaster Coroner’s Court, described Frazer as being in ‘good spirits’ when he left the station following his arrest, adding that they had no concerns for his safety or mental well-being.
Frazer’s sister, Caroline, also spoke at the inquest, describing the suicide as a ‘complete shock’ to the family, and that no one had been aware of the actor’s mental health struggles or that he was ‘feeling low enough to end his life’, describing her brother as being ‘happy in life’, saying he was ‘loved by his family and nieces and nephews.’
Amy Walsh, beloved by Emmerdale viewers as Tracy Shankley, took to Instagram and shared a picture of Frazer to her story upon the news of his death breaking, captioning it: ‘Rest in peace you wonderful man’.
The John Godber Theatre Company had previously broken to news on their own Instagram feed, sharing an image of Frazer on stage.
They captioned the post: ‘We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Frazer Hammill. It is impossible to put into words how much he will be missed by all of us who had the absolute joy of working with him. Frazer had a huge loving heart and enormous talent.
‘We are all heartbroken.’
Amy also commented on the post, leaving three broken heart emojis followed by: ‘there are no words.’
Frazer played Kev in Abraham’s Point, the titular role in the the Heart of Thomas Hardy, Luke in Shed Convention, Peter in Molehills, a Detective Constable in Happy Valley, Jonathan O’Malley in Last Laugh, with his final on-screen roles coming in the big, box-office Justice League film and appearing as a prison guard in Emmerdale, alongside Amy.
