Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden shares co-parenting insights after split from Charley Webb

The couple separated in 2023 after five years of marriage.

Former Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has opened up on raising his three sons with ex-wife and co-star Charley Webb, saying they’ve found the formula that works for them when it comes to successful co-parenting.

Wolfenden, known for the role of David Metcalfe on Emmerdale, and Debbie Dingle star Webb separated in 2023 after five years of marriage. They share three sons, 16-year-old Buster, 10-year-old Bowie and six-year-old Ace, with Wolfenden saying that co-parenting with Webb has been “absolutely great”.

“We do a week on and a week off,” he told the Mirror. “Which we’ve done since the very start – and it works really well. We’re living across the road from each other, so we see the kids even when it’s not our week and all the time.”

Wolfenden, who recently joined Hollyoaks in the role of Jonah Keane, said both he and Webb have been focusing on making sure their kids were “in a good place”, sharing his advice to ex-partners or spouses who are co-parenting.

“You do just have to learn a lot as you go. It’s all new. I think everyone’s different, so you’ve got to create your own path,” he said.

“The most important thing is to think of the children. As long as they’re happy and thriving, then I think you’ve done a good job.”

Following his 18-year-long Emmerdale stint, Wolfenden took to the stage in the West End musical adaptation of Christmas classic Elf, taking on the role of Buddy the Elf, played by Will Ferrell in the movie.

During the production of the musical in 2023, Wolfenden met choreographer and actor Heather Scott-Martin and the two started dating.

“The boys love Heather,” the soap star said about the relationship between his new partner and his sons.

Last year, Wolfenden touched upon his split with Webb, saying that the separation was “a big shock” for and that it had been “Charley’s decision”.

“We are still friends – we have kids together. We are always going to have a relationship,” he said on The Lewis Nicholls Show. “And we had the best 15 years together, and we got the best three kids out of it.”
