‘The internet is wrong’: Margot Robbie addresses fake rumour about where she was born in Australia

Margot Robbie has claimed that the internet has never correctly reported where she was actually born in Australia.

Robbie cleared up a long-running rumour about her this week, which has been plaguing the internet for well over a decade.

While she was raised in the little town of Dalby, despite what much of the internet claims after a quick Google, she wasn’t actually born there!

Robbie said the “internet has had my place of birth wrong the whole time” in an interview with Magic FM.

“I was born on the Gold Coast,” insisted the Hollywood star. “It’s not a stupid rumour.

“It’s just amazing that this far along it’s still incorrect.”

One quick Google search proves the Hollywood star right, with even Google’s AI getting her birthplace wrong.

“Margot Robbie, born in Dalby and raised on the Gold Coast, Queensland, spent her childhood on her grandparents’ farm in the Currumbin Valley,” says the search function.

Discussing her upbringing back in 2016, Robbie shared more insight with Vanity Fair.

“People always want to know, ‘Did you have kangaroos outside your bedroom window?’” she said. “I’m like, ‘Yes, but none of my other friends did.’ Or ‘Did you have snakes running around?’ And again, ‘Yes, in our house, but this isn’t an Australian thing.’”

Robbie has always maintained a strong bond with her childhood, staying close with all 16 of her preschool classmates.

“We’re all so tight-knit,” she said of her group of mates. “They are still my best friends today. We’ve known each other since preschool and we’re still the best of friends, so that’s an incredibly special thing. Everyone always says we’ve never met a group like you. It’s crazy.”

Meanwhile, speaking to The Mirror about her feelings around becoming one of the world’s biggest movie stars in recent years, Robbie admitted last year that she constantly feels anxiety thinking she’s just one box office disaster away from being shunned by Hollywood.

“Is there a moment where I thought it was all sorted now? No, I think every time I’m like, ‘Oh, God, it’s all going to be taken away, I won’t get to do this again, this is the last time’,” she revealed.

“I have this complete crisis of faith every time, ‘What am I doing?’ I freak out every time. I care so much, for sure.”
