EastEnders finally reveals who attacked Joel Marshall in early iPlayer release

The truth is out!

EastEnders spoilers follow for Thursday’s episode (13 August), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer and hasn’t yet aired on TV.

EastEnders has finally revealed who attacked Joel Marshall, as someone makes a confession about that fateful night. Last month, the teenagers of Walford took revenge on Joel by locking him to a railing and throwing beer at him. However, it was later discovered that Joel had then been unlocked and hit over the head with a hammer.

Suspicions continued to rise this week, with Lily eventually admitting not only that it was her who initially unlocked Joel from the railing, but that she saw Denzel sneaking off before the attack.

But when Denzel came under fire by the teens and parents, Avani jumped to his defence and confessed that he was with her the whole time – and Amy wasn’t happy to discover that her friend and her ex had shared a moment of passion.

In today’s episode, Ricky suggested that Nugget could be responsible for attacking Joel, but when he promised to protect Amy if she was the culprit, Amy was furious that he would suspect her.

Amy returned home and her dad updated her on the drama with Sheila trying to take Jordan out the country. But when Amy explained about Denzel and Avani hooking up, Jack snapped at his daughter for bothering him with a more trivial problem.

Meanwhile, Avani told Craig about her and Denzel’s movements on the night of the attack. She was supported by Priya, who promised to back her if Amy gives her any more trouble.

Kat spotted Amy sat in the Square swigging from a bottle of vodka and decided to check on the struggling teen. She encouraged Amy to go home and make amends with her dad – but instead Amy headed to McKlunky’s, where she bumped into Craig.

Craig realised that Denzel was Amy’s ex, so offered a listening ear off the record. The pair had a candid chat, and Craig explained that he and Jack could lose their jobs if it was discovered that he didn’t log the incriminating video of Joel’s ordeal.

Feeling guilty, Amy admitted it was originally her idea to tie Joel up, then revealed what really happened later that evening.

“I went back, and Lily obviously unlocked him,” she said. “He was mocking me and trying to get in my head… so I grabbed the hammer. It was me. I hit him.”

What will Craig do about Amy’s bombshell confession?
