EastEnders puts out casting call for Meghan – but it’s not who you think

Last week, it was rumoured that Meghan Markle would be making a return to acting, after reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were moving back to the UK.

EastEnders fans quickly devised characters and storylines for the Suits star, joking that she would be joining the BBC soap.

Since then, EastEnders has coincidentally put out a casting call for a new series regular named Meghan – though it has no link to the Royal. The character, who was mentioned on screen earlier this month, will form part of the Hawkins family.

According to Variety, the casting call is looking for a woman around 30 years old to play the “funny, fearless and fiercely loyal” newcomer.

The breakdown continues: “Quick-witted and impossible to intimidate, Meghan never backs down from a confrontation, she has spent her whole life proving she can handle whatever is thrown at her.

“Meghan knows what she wants in life and has never relied on anyone else to get by. She’s worked every job imaginable over the years, grafting hard to build a life for herself and earning every penny she’s made… a trait that has made her family very proud of her.”

Meghan’s arrival to Albert Square has been compared to “an Essex bombshell walking into the Love Island villa”, with producers describing her as “confident, gorgeous and ready to cause chaos”.

Though she hasn’t appeared on screen yet, the character has already made her mark on the soap, via her mum Gemma. Last week, newcomers Gemma and Jodie burst into Walford, seeking the help of their sister Nicola Mitchell.

Gemma revealed she had kidnapped Meghan’s abusive boyfriend Leo, but was unsure what to do with him after shoving him in the boot of her car. Unimpressed Nicola threatened Leo and warned him to stay away from her niece.

But this won’t be the last problem Nicola has to deal with, as more of the Hawkins family are set to arrive at the end of this month, ahead of Meghan’s introduction.
