‘Extremely protective’: Nicole’s concerns for Sunday Rose as she enters ‘predatory’ industry

Nicole Kidman is learning a tough lesson in letting go as Sunday Rose sets her sights on Hollywood.

Sunday, the first-born daughter of the Practical Magic 2 star and Keith Urban, turned 18 at the start of July and has been working in the modelling industry since she was 16.

While the runway model has remained tight-lipped about her dating life, over the past couple of months she’s started to share more snippets of her life behind-the-scenes with her inner circle on Instagram, and has been open about her Hollywood dreams.

Sunday Rose chases stardom

A source close to the family told Woman’s Day while Nicole loves that Sunday Rose is forging her own path, she still wants to protect her from the pitfalls of fame and the downside of working in the entertainment industry.

“Nicole is extremely protective when it comes to her kids, she guards every aspect of their lives pretty fiercely so you will not catch her spilling anything about Sunday’s dating life, she’s a vault,” the source spills.

While Sunday Rose had ambitions to became a model from a young age, Nicole and Keith didn’t allow her to enter the industry – or even attend a runway show – until she was 16.

“She does talk pretty openly about how tough it’s been for her to allow Sunday to enter the business though, that’s something that Nicole really struggled with because of course she knows how many pitfalls there can be,” they explain.

“But she faced her fears and she says that she’s so glad she did because Sunday is having such a wonderful experience and she says it’s been fantastic for Nicole, as well. She says she loves seeing how excited Sunday gets for everything, in a way she’s getting to live it all again because she’s experiencing it through her eyes.”

Nicole’s concern about ‘predatory’ industry

Since her parents’ split in September of last year, Sunday has attended several industry events alongside her famous mother, including this year’s Met Gala.

“The Met Ball this year was Nicole’s best one ever because they got to share the moment, she says nothing compares to that. Nicole admits she’s a bit of a helicopter mom, she’s not overbearing about it but everyone that works with Sunday is aware that Nicole will be involved, at least peripherally,” our insider spills.

“She says if Sunday is going to be a part of this predatory industry she’s going to do everything in her power to make sure she’s never thrown to the wolves.

“And Sunday could not be more appreciative, she adores Nicole and seems to be very aware how lucky she is to have her in her corner. Not that she’s relying solely on Nicole, Sunday is definitely forging her own life, she’s making her own connections and she’s already got a reputation as someone with a great work ethic.”

The now 18-year-old has already established her modelling career and is now hoping to break into Hollywood, both in front and behind the camera.

“Most people know that Sunday is modelling and starting to pursue acting as well, but she’s also got her sights set on cinematography and directing. She’s always doing shoots with her friends and of course she loves taking photos of Nicole,” the source spills.

“That being said, she doesn’t seem to be in any rush to break away, she’s still a real momma’s girl, she even says her ultimate dream is to work on something with Nicole. ”

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, 59-year-old Nicole revealed that she asked her late mother for advice when Sunday told her she wanted to become a model.

“I said, ‘Oh, should I let her? She wants to model.’ And my mom said, ‘Well, you did it. … You have to let her because I let you,’” she told the publication.

The Babygirl actress then recalled how her mother supported her own ambitions to enter the entertainment industry when she was just 14.

“So that was, sort of, my mum’s parting gift to Sunny,” she said.

“She kind of encouraged me to let her be able to follow her ‘bliss’ and follow her passion and what she wanted. So, I’m so grateful that my mama passed [that on].”
