Emmerdale reveals Sarah and Jacob’s future amid bombshell confession

Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant has opened up about how Jacob Sugden will react to the shocking news that baby Leyla is not his and Sarah’s biological daughter. The secret was revealed to Sarah last week by Charity, to stop her going to the police and confessing to killing Dr Todd.

Sarah and Jacob had believed that Leyla is their daughter and that Charity was merely the baby’s surrogate. But Charity had been keeping the secret that she did not get pregnant from the embryo belonging to Sarah and Jacob but instead became pregnant after sleeping with Ross.

In scenes to air next week, Sarah will finally tell Jacob the truth after worrying that he will find out from others in the village.

Speaking about Jacob’s reaction exclusively to us at the National Television Awards, Plant said: “When he finds out, it’s going to absolutely shock him, it’s going to break him.”

When it comes to Jacob’s relationship with Sarah, Plant admits he will not take her keeping the truth from him “lightly”.

The actor added: “However, they’re both in the situation together, and obviously it will have shocked Sarah as much as Jacob. So I think it’s something that they’ll be able to reconnect with and work through together.”

Of course the revelation will not just affect Jacob’s relationship with Sarah but it has the potential to change his feelings towards baby Leyla too. However, Plant believes Jacob has “unconditional” love for the baby he’s been raising for the past few months.

“I think Jacob’s love for Leyla is so unconditional. It’s really, really beautiful,” he said.

“I feel like, because of everything that Jacob’s been through, having Leyla in his life now is a little bit of something that he didn’t really have growing up.

“He’s had a difficult relationship with his mum and Alicia, and then his dad kind of left him – and then David took that role, but even things with David didn’t end on good terms,” he added.

“It’s going to be difficult for him to get his head around, but at the end of the day he loves Leyla, and I think he’ll be there for her no matter what.”
