Emmerdale confirms unexpected Charity prison outcome as reeling Sarah makes an announcement
A bleak future

The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Emmerdale dated September 17. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube.
Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) has made a complete mess of things in Emmerdale.
After discovering that baby Leyla isn’t actually her child, Sarah went to the police station and changed her statement so that Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) would be charged with murdering Doctor Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker).
Charity’s loved ones were in shock at Sarah’s actions. To try and get revenge himself, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) threatened to tell Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) the truth about baby Leyla, and how Sarah actually killed Dr Todd.
Sarah confessed her secrets to Jacob before Mackenzie could. He reacted with anger and pushed Sarah away at first, but Jacob eventually decided that he still wanted to be with Sarah and raise baby Leyla…away from the village.
Her guilt increasing, Sarah then headed to the police station and decided to change her statement back to the original one, hoping it would secure Charity’s freedom.
Unfortunately, what Sarah didn’t think about while doing this were the consequences she’d face by telling the police that she lied to them.

DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) kept her in for more questioning and in today’s episode, Sarah stuck to her story that she changed her statement because she was angry at Charity for lying to her.
Back in the village, Sarah updated a very worried Mackenzie. She admitted that she doesn’t think the police believe her comments, and fears it will be up to the jury to decide whether Charity is actually guilty or not.
This whole situation is complete chaos. If Charity is freed, does this mean Sarah will go to prison in her place?
