The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Layla Taylor comes out as bisexual and reflects on years of hiding her identity

Layla Taylor, the star of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, came out as bisexual on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast and said she dates both men and women.

The 25-year-old reality star revealed that she has been drawn to women since she was little. However, this is the first time she has said it so openly. She also said her recent breakup helped her focus on herself and better understand her identity.

“I’m gay and I’m bi and date women and men,” Taylor said on the podcast streamed on June 29, 2026.

She explained that she never knew how to talk about it and “formally address” this aspect of her life for a “long period of my life.” Layla Taylor added that she no longer wanted to hide who she really is.

“We’re only on this earth for however long we are here and I’ll be damned if I’m not able to be fully who I am.”

Furthermore, Vanderpump Villa star explained that she had spent too long living for other people as a mom, a wife, and someone trying to please everyone around her

“Honestly, I went through a breakup at the beginning of this year and I feel like for just a long period of my life, I was constantly living my life for other people.” She continued:”Whether that was being a mom or I was in a marriage at one point. I was married. And I just feel like I was always fulfilling other people around me.”

Because of that, she said she never had the chance to “focus” on herself or her own feelings or “be able to really just sit alone with who I am as a person.”

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star believes the breakup was “a blessing in disguise” that gave her a chance to discover herself.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Layla Taylor further reflected on her sexuality

Layla Taylor revealed that she had experienced those feelings of being attracted to women since a young age, but did not understand them.

She already felt different as a young Black girl growing up in a predominantly white community in Utah. Also, as she said, there was very little LGBTQ+ representation around her while she was growing up. 

“I would be watching shows like Pretty Little Liars, and I would watch Shay Mitchell kissing a girl. I was like, ‘Wait, why is that hot?'” She added, “I didn’t know what those feelings were because I didn’t have queer representation around me. I could look at it and be like, ‘OK, this is normal.'”

Layla Taylor explained that there was never any pressure that she could not be attracted to women. But she never saw people around her openly living that life. That convinced her to believe her feelings were temporary.

“I didn’t know if it was just a phase.” She admitted, “I would just kind of underplay it for a long period of my life.”

Layla Taylor said she is ready to live authentically

Taylor told Shetty she has reached a point in her life where she no longer wants to hide any part of herself. She added being “very proud to be bi, and I’m very proud now to be out.”

“I just feel like I’m finally in the era that I’m over not being truly myself and I’m over not showing every part of Layla to the world.”

She also shared a message for anyone struggling with their own identity, saying,

“I hope that if anyone’s in a situation that I am as well, that, for a long time there, I didn’t know if I could come out and truly be myself. I hope that they can feel safe to do so and proud to do so.”

Layla Taylor revealed that she is dating a woman

Taylor revealed that she is currently dating a woman. She further shared that her relationship began after she liked one of the woman’s TikTok videos. The woman later messaged her, and they eventually met in person.

Describing their first kiss, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star said,

“We met up, and we hung out and it was just kind of like that first kiss of, like, this wasn’t like a drunk moment.” She continued: “This was me intentionally going into a moment knowing how I felt about women.”

Taylor also praised the woman for being “more emotionally aware about certain things and very patient.” She added that the women she has known have been “understanding.” Furthermore, they allowed her to take the journey at her own pace because it was all new for her.

Layla Taylor ​​​​​​further revealed that none of her fellow The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives cast members knew she was bisexual before the episode aired.

“No one from the group knows….We’ve just been kind of a little separate since going on that pause from filming.”
