Danika Mason announces she’s pregnant live on Today

The popular Nine reporter joined her colleagues on the sofa on Today this morning to personally announce some big news.

Nine sports reporter Danika Mason joined her colleagues on the sofa this morning to make a personal announcement: She’s expecting her first child.

“Liam and I are expecting a little baby – it’s a baby boom here on the Today show,” Mason said, referencing Today co-host Sarah Abo, who is currently further along in her own pregnancy.

Mason said that she and her fiance, rugby player Liam Knight, are expecting a baby girl, due in December.

And she said she’s feeling “a lot better” after experiencing sickness earlier in the pregnancy.

“Everyone here at Nine has been so supportive – when I’ve been vomiting on the way to work, they’ve been so good.”

Abo, who announced back in March that she was pregnant with her own first child, joked that she and Mason were already busy arranging their two unborn babies’ future marriage.

“This is all ahead of you,” said Abo, gesturing to her bump. “I’ve got plenty of dresses you can loan.”

First-time mum Mason admitted she felt she still had a lot to learn about motherhood before her due date.

“I feel like we won’t know what we’re doing. We’ve been reading everything, googling everything … anyone at home, feel free to send me some advice,” she pleaded.

The baby news comes after Mason and Knight announced their engagement in October last year, with Mason showing off photos of her engagement ring on a post captioned: “Some exciting news.”

Danika and partner Liam got engaged last October.

The couple have been together since February 2024, and have made the relationship work despite at times living on the other side of the world from each other.

Their relationship became the talk of the rugby league world last year after Mason split with fiancee Todd Liubinskas in 2023 and called off their wedding, just weeks before they were set to get married.

Mason earlier this year opened up about the reason her former engagement was broken off.

“It certainly was an emotional rollercoaster,” she told Stellar.

“When someone hurts you like that, you experience all the emotions from sadness to shock to anger.

“But sometimes you just have to get through it. You’ve got no option, really … People would ask me, ‘Are you OK?’ And I’d say, ‘Not right now, but I will be’.”
