Taylor Frankie Paul voluntarily entered a rehab facility.

Paul, 32, “checked into a facility upon the recommendation of her doctor,” a source tells PEOPLE. The insider tells PEOPLE it was a “voluntary” stay. She has since departed.

“She’s committed to getting better,” the source says.

Another source tells PEOPLE that “The people around Taylor want her to get help,” adding that those around her “want to see her get better.”

The insider says, “Everyone is just trying to protect the kids.” Paul shares 2-year-old son Ever with Dakota Mortensen, and daughter Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 6, with ex-husband Tate Paul.

TMZ first reported that the TV personality had checked into rehab for a short time.

Paul and Mortensen were involved in an open “domestic assault investigation” pertaining to incidents that occurred Feb. 24 and 25, Draper Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE on March 16. Amid news of the investigation, TMZ published footage from a 2023 incident involving the former couple, in which Paul was seen yelling and throwing chairs at Mortensen while a child was nearby.

Paul was previously arrested for alleged domestic violence in 2023, and she pled guilty in abeyance to aggravated assault, which means that if she complies with the conditions of the plea, that charge will be dismissed. The other charges have already been dismissed.

Amid the ongoing domestic assault investigation, Mortensen filed for a protective order against Paul on March 19, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. On April 7, she filed for a protective order. One week later, prosecutors announced that they would not be pursuing charges against Paul.

On April 30, the orders were mutually granted for a term of three years. The judge kept the custody arrangement in place, granting Mortensen custody of Ever and allowing Paul up to 8 hours per week of visitation, supervised by a paid supervisor or someone vetted by the guardian ad litem.

Just over a month later, on June 1, a judge lifted mandatory supervision for Paul’s parent time with Ever. The judge also issued Paul custody of Ever on the same midweek day each week without overnights as well as alternating weekends. The judge said that Mortensen will remain the “custodial parent” on holidays.

Paul and Mortensen’s volatile relationship has been documented throughout the first four seasons of Mormon Wives. PEOPLE reported in mid-March that The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives halted filming for its season 5 amid news of the investigation into Paul and Mortensen. About one month later, on April 21, PEOPLE confirmed that the Hulu series was set to continue production without Paul or Mortensen.

A source close to Paul later told PEOPLE that she “has the option to return” to the reality show, and it’s possible she could make an appearance.

“She’s receiving strong support from the cast and producers but is focusing on her kids and mental health issues and recovery from an abusive relationship,” said the source. “She’s doing great, and realizing how abusive her relationship actually was.”

At the same time season 5 halted production, ABC canceled Paul’s season of The Bachelorette three days before it was set to premiere. A Disney Entertainment Television spokesperson issued a statement announcing the cancellation of the show’s 22nd season after the 2023 video of Paul attacking Mortensen leaked.

“In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of The Bachelorette at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family,” the spokesperson said.
