EastEnders faces security alert as YouTuber breaks into set

The video was uploaded last week.

As one of the most iconic fictional places in the UK, Albert Square is very much hot property in the world of soaps. So much so that EastEnders got a security alert as a YouTuber broke onto the set of the BBC soap.

Mr Airborne is a self-described “adrenaline junky and world explorer” whose content often takes place in abandoned or closed-off locations, with recent videos including visits across Europe.

In a video that was posted on YouTube on Friday (10 July), the man at the centre of the account snuck onto the set of EastEnders, and managed to enter locations such as The Queen Vic and The Minute Mart.

After recording for over 30 minutes, the intruder was eventually spotted by a worker, and managed to flee by scaling a fence. The title of the video referenced this, with it reading: “I Snuck Into EastEnders filming set… security was on to me.”

At the beginning of the video, the intruder explained that he had previously tried to enter the set “four years ago”, but quickly left as he was unable to get any “good footage”. He also added a disclaimer to the video, urging fans to not “recreate” anything depicted.

“I explore some of the show’s most iconic locations, including The Queen Vic, The chippy, Phil Mitchell’s Garage… and plenty more areas behind the scenes,” reads the description. “But things don’t go to plan…”

“While inside Phil Mitchell’s Garage, I spot security searching for me, forcing me to make a quick escape before getting caught,” they added, before calling it “one of the most surreal” things they had “ever done”.

We contacted EastEnders for comment, with a representative for the soap telling us: “We never comment on security matters.”

On the soap itself, it’s been a hectic week, with it being reported over the weekend that Zoe Slater is set to be killed off after Michelle Ryan left the series. The actor made a comeback to Walford last year, but it’s proved to be a short return.

“We can confirm that Zoe Slater will be departing EastEnders later this year,” a BBC spokesperson told Digital Spy. “We wish Michelle Ryan all the best for the future. However, we never comment on future storylines as we don’t want to spoil it for the viewers.”

“Michelle’s exit marks the end of a storyline that has been in the works for some time,” added an insider. “With such an iconic character, Zoe’s exit is never going to be without drama… As always with the Slaters, it’s not going to be quiet.”
