‘Life is the toughest it’s ever been’: Flood of love for Channel 7 star after sad reveal
Fans of The Morning Show star Karen Ledbury flocked to support her after she shared an update.
Fans of The Morning Show have flocked to support its daily contributor Karen Ledbury, after the star revealed “life is the toughest it’s ever been”.
The popular presenter – who fronts the show’s advertising segments alongside her commitments hosting on Sydney Weekender – sparked concern after sharing a post on August 6 as she looked forward to a much-needed vacation in Las Vegas with a friend.
“Not gunna lie.. Life is the toughest it’s ever been… But a short break with a great friend will leave memories I will never forget and fill my soul ready for another round on my return,” she wrote.
Friends of the star quickly rallied to support her, with journalist Melissa Hoyer writing, “Love you – always always a bright star – sending love and thinking of you.”
“You are so amazingly strong,” added singer and entertainer Phil Burton.
Indeed, off-screen Karen has been through a tumultuous time over the last few years.
In June 2022, her husband Aidan suffered a devastating stroke while she was at work filming.
“The studio that we work in is actually like a concrete jungle, so there is no reception,” Karen recalled of the day in question in an emotional interview on The Morning Show in August 2023.
“I couldn’t get any calls. I couldn’t get any texts, and we are supposed to finish at 4pm but I finished at 2pm and I went down to the car park, came back out.”
Usually, at that time, Karen would give Aidan a call.
“Normally, I get reception on my phone and I’ll ring him and say ‘do we need bread?’ ‘Do we need to pick something up?’” she explained.
“But I wasn’t getting reception so… I turned my phone off and turned it back on again and there were 37 missed calls from both of my eldest sons and two of my husband’s best friends.”
Karen’s “super fit” 53-year-old husband had suffered a stroke and he wasn’t expected to survive.
While Aidan did miraculously pull through, he faced a long road ahead as he learned how to walk again.
More devastation was in store for the family shortly after, as Karen’s 19-year-old son, Jordan – one of her three boys – was diagnosed with cancer.
The swimmer, who lives in Hawaii, had been visiting his family in Australia at the time of Aidan’s stroke but when he returned home he was hospitalised.
“I had Aidan in intensive care in Sydney, Australia. I had Jordan in hospital in Hawaii in the United States…” Karen reflected in an April 2026 interview with The Inspired CEO.
Yet, the star has remained determined to think positively about all her family has gone through.
“I am grateful that these lessons are being taught to my kids – that they will look at their life in a more positive manner,” she explained.
“And it’s funny the little things that go wrong, the little things that happen to them, they can just handle it because they know I can as well.”
In an emotional Instagram post in June 2024, Karen reflected on the difficult time once more.
“Two years ago today our life was changed forever. Dealt the cruellest blow and time to start the toughest fight,” she shared.
“Everyday is tough, but everyday we grow stronger, more resilient, closer and determined to be triumphant.”
In April, Karen shared how her Morning Show family had helped her navigate the heartache. She famously took no time off as she faced the crisis head on.
“For anyone who’s… a viewer of The Morning Show, thank you – because you got me through,” she said during her The Inspired CEO interview.
“They have been a big part of my life. They’ve gone through all of that and I think that the viewers really – and the show, Larry and Kylie, are amazing.
“Everyone banded together and I think that gave me the release… Back at home there was all this tragedy but at work I was just a normal person…”
In a 2025 interview with Over The Back Fence podcast, Karen also shared a story of her son’s resilience – explaining how Jordan continued swimming training through his cancer fight.
“Through the cancer, he trained. He had two weeks off after his surgery. He trained. He then broke six Hawaiian records, and he was the first Hawaii swimmer in 21 years to make the NCAA’s, which is the national college athletics,” Karen shared, adding that she just wanted “to cry again” as she reflected on his achievement.
She said his father was there to see him win, which led to a beautiful moment where Jordan looked up to the stands to share a heartfelt gesture of love.
