Sarah conflicted over Dr Todd death secret in Emmerdale as Charity pushes ahead with confession

Emotional scenes ahead for Charity and Sarah

Weeks ago, we were teased with a clip of Emmerdale’s Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) lying dead in a pool of blood.

It means we’ve known all along that someone would take action against the sinister doctor, but who was the biggest question.

The speculation circulated – could it be Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) getting her own revenge after Todd raped her? Would Mack Boyd (Lawrence Robb) avenge his wife? Would loyal and fiery Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) seek retribution on Charity’s behalf?

None of the above – it was Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill).

The surprise came after Todd confronted Charity in her own home. Todd was in town after having a boozy lunch with Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) and driving her home. After dropping the sozzled doc off at home, Todd was confronted by an aggrieved Vanessa.

She toyed with the vet in the most Caitlin Todd way possible, though Vanessa held her own by declaring her a rapist, before deciding to head to Jacobs Fold.

She’d been expecting to confront a timid and easily pliable Charity but instead she faced an empowered survivor ready to take on her attacker.

It was the showdown we’d been waiting for as Charity shook Todd to the core.

Charity demanded a confession, something Todd is not prepared to do. But their conversation is overheard, and moments later, Todd ends up dead.

Though it’s an accident, Sarah is the perpetrator.

Dr Todd met a shocking end

This is a shocking and terrifying situation, meaning Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) and Charity must jump into action. Serena immediately tries to frame it as self-defence, and Charity confesses that she was the one to do it as both women try to protect Sarah. But Ds Ramsden wasn’t born yesterday.

Charity and Serena know what happened and meet to discuss their next steps, but they’re interrupted by DS Ramsden, who’s on the prowl for answers.

Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant), meanwhile, is suspicious as Sarah’s behaviour is telling him a story, but he vows not to ask any more questions. His trust destabilises Sarah who feels that she needs to tell him, but Charity refuses to let her do it – Charity makes a huge decision to stick with her confession and face the consequences.

Will Serena be able to use any of her police past to help Charity?
