Who is Sean to Amy in EastEnders? Past connection explained

Sean is on a mission to find missing Amy

Sean Slater (Rob Kazinsky) staged an almighty return to EastEnders just in time to assist in the search for missing Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd).

Amy, as viewers was know, left the Square with disgraced detective Craig Ingram (Matthew James Bailey), who has been grooming her for months.

Craig targeted Amy after questioning her over Joel Marshall’s (Max Murray) attack and, upon discovering that she was guilty of the crime, he used her admission to manipulate her into thinking she could only trust him.

With Craig having lost his job, Amy decided to access her inheritance early and, with some help from Max Branning (Jake Wood), she got her hands on the cash, which she transferred to Craig’s account.

Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) was horrified to discover that Amy was not only being targeted by Craig but that they had left Walford together – and a police search soon commenced.

And just when it looked like all hope was running out, Sean Slater arrived back in the Square. The much-loved character is on a mission to help locate Amy, who he shares quite a bit of history with.

If you’re struggling to remember who Sean is to Amy then you’re in luck as we’ve got a quick trip down memory lane to fill in all the blanks.

Who is Sean to Amy in EastEnders? ‘Dad’ connection explained

Amy, as longtime EastEnders viewers will recall, is the daughter of Roxy Mitchell and Jack Branning.

Roxy, who tragically died almost a decade ago, was famously in a relationship with Sean back in 2008. Her sister Ronnie (Samantha Womack) was not pleased due to Sean having been a drug dealer and thus made it her mission to break them up – to no avail.

Sean once thought Amy was his child

As tensions escalated and, following an argument with her sister, Roxy got drunk and slept with Jack – who was at the time a key love interest for Ronnie.

Sean subsequently learned of the pregnancy and assumed he was not the father. Roxy told Sean at first that he wasn’t the dad but ultimately came to say that he was – much to his delight.

Sean and Roxy married in subsequent scenes and were looking forward to a happy future together. Roxy later delivered a baby girl, who she named Amy in memory of Ronnie’s baby.

Amy is Roxy’s daughter

On Christmas Day 2008, the truth came out as Sean learned the devastating fact that he wasn’t Amy’s dad. Upon learning that Jack was her father, he kidnapped Amy. Stacey (Lacey Turner) later returned home with the child while Sean showed up soon after, claiming he’d forgiven Roxy and wanted to give things another go.

Ronnie was sceptical and certain Roxy was in danger and her theory soon proved correct, with Sean driving Roxy and Amy towards frozen lake.

Roxy rescued Amy before falling through the frozen lake with Sean. Both characters survived but Sean did not return to the Square for 11 years, making brief appearances in 2019, 2021 and a video call with mum Jean (Gillian Wright) in 2022.

In the present day scenes, Sean is determined to save Amy and hold true his promise to Roxy to keep a watchful eye on their daughter. But will he succeed?
