Coronation Street character released without charge after murder – but not all is as it seems
In the spotlight

DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) turned her attention to another Coronation Street resident in tonight’s episode, as Theo Silverton’s (James Cartwright) murder investigation continued.
Following the discovery of Theo’s body, Lisa and DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) told the Weatherfield residents at the start of this week that they believe he was killed by someone.
In the spotlight for questioning first were the people who interacted with Theo the most prior to his demise – Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) and George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley).
Lisa was particularly curious about George’s movements, as she had discovered he was hiding a bloodied shirt in the funeral parlour. He explained that the blood came from Theo when he had a fight with him in the flat.
The mistake George made that ultimately moved him up the list of prime suspects was failing to tell Lisa that he went for a walk the night Theo died, and then suddenly remembering this piece of information. He was kept in a cell overnight, but released due to a lack of evidence that suggested he killed Theo.
As tonight’s episode opened, Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) found Gary Windass (Mikey North) at the builder’s yard in the early hours of the morning. He lied to her about what he was up to, but eventually revealed the truth.
He explained to Maria that he was the one who smashed Theo’s windscreen on his van, and was deleting the CCTV footage of him to prevent landing in any trouble.
Given that Gary was once Theo’s mate, he wasn’t going to bypass questioning at the station. There, Lisa’s ears pricked up when Gary stated that the CCTV at the yard deletes itself after a week.
Gary was let go due to the fact that Maria was interviewed by Lisa, and revealed that the CCTV footage was deleted due to them having ‘private time’ in the yard the night Theo was killed.

It put Gary in the clear – but not permanently.
As the episode drew to a close, Tim and Sally Metcalfe (Joe Duttine and Sally Dynevor) were flicking through pictures they took at Swarla’s wedding – aka the same day Theo died.
Unbeknownst to them, Gary was in the background of one of their pictures, placing him firmly at the scene.
So, what else was Gary doing that night?
