The Bachelorette alum Rachel Lindsay shares her thoughts on the Taylor Frankie Paul controversy
Former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay recently said that the franchise might not recover after the Taylor Frankie Paul’s controversy. During a conversation, The Bachelor Party podcast, Lindsay said:
“I think it’s over,” she said of the franchise’s future. “I was trying to think of a scenario where it could be different, because this isn’t just, ‘Oh, we put it all on a person. This person did this.’ This is the system that allowed this to happen. I think it’s over. I was trying to think of a scenario where it could be different, because this isn’t just, ‘Oh, we put it all on a person. This person did this.’ This is the system that allowed this to happen.”
Lindsay’s statement comes after the network pulled Paul’s season of The Bachelorette after one of her controversial videos, in which she is seen in a heated argument with Dakota, was leaked. Later, a Disney Entertainment spokesperson stated:
“In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision not to move forward with the new season of The Bachelorette at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family.”
Rachel Lindsay talks about the future of the franchise being uncertain
Lindsay further revealed on the podcast that people were already upset when the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star was announced as the lead for the next Bachelorette. Lindsay continued:
“So how do you trust this name — Bachelor, Bachelorette — that has meant something to people, moving forward? You don’t,” she said. “You already questioned it when you moved Taylor Frankie Paul over The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Now it is destroyed. Like, why did you guys think this was okay? That’s the question that needs to be answered. We’re never gonna get that from Taylor at this point.”
The former Bachelorette pointed out that she cannot see a world where the show will be coming back anytime soon. Lindsay also noted that this has cost those hundreds of people who are employed by ABC, saying:
“I think you also have to acknowledge that so many people are about to lose their jobs, and that’s the irresponsible part too, with the network.”
Lindsay added that Bachelor in Paradise might be the only show from the franchise that might be able to recover from the controversy.
