‘How quick life can change’: Jana Pittman shares message after family crisis
The former athlete took to social media to give details of a nightime ordeal.
Former athlete Jana Pittman has shared an emotional message – after her mum Jackie was involved in a terrifying car crash.
The Australian Olympian took to Instagram on August 28 to share details of the incident that happened just hours earlier.
“Last night my beautiful mum was driving to help me with the kids and flipped her car at 80km/hr on Ghost road near our house,” the mum-of-six explained.
“Somehow she walked out with only cuts and bruises.”
Jana shared her post to say a “huge thank you” to members of the local community who stopped and helped Jackie climb out the back of the car to safety while she waited for an ambulance to arrive.
She said her mum’s car was a “write off”, but that staff at Port Macquarie Base Hospital had been “so kind and swift” in assessing her.
Jana happens to work as a doctor specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology at the very same hospital where her mum was taken.
“Just made me realise how quick life can change, my amazing my mum is, but also how lucky I am to live in this regional community!” Jana shared in her post.
It’s been just six months since Jana revealed she had made the decision to move her family out of Sydney to the Port Macquarie area for good.
“We have some news… after much life deliberation and hours debating my career choices and raising 6 kids plus the wonderful 6mths working at Port Mac Base Hospital, we have decided to make it permanent!” she shared in an Instagram post at the time.
“The kids and I are officially moving out of Sydney for good and settling into hobby farm and beach life!”
Jana – who made her childhood dream of studying medicine come true after her athletics career fell apart after repeated setbacks – said she would only return to Sydney to finish her training.
“Mum moving with me and dad already in Old Bar so it’s just all falling into place 🥰,” she wrote, adding that the sale of her Sydney home had allowed her to invest in a hobby farm and beach house near Lake Cathie.
“The farm house only 3 beds but we spend the rest of our spare time in our amazing caravan which shows me you need far less room than you think,” she told her fans.
“Can’t wait to start this new chapter…”
