Coronation Street star reveals Summer’s show future after prison release
As the soap revealed who killed Theo.

Coronation Street star Harriet Bibby has shared her theories about her character Summer Spellman staying in Weatherfield following her prison ordeal. Summer has been caught in the soap’s ongoing storyline centred on Theo Silverton’s death and was wrongly accused of his murder.
Now, as Summer was exonerated thanks to Tyrone Dobbs, Corrie has revealed the identity of Theo’s killer, but how will Summer react when the truth comes out and Sarah Platt is exposed as the real culprit?
“Obviously Summer will eventually find out like everyone else, but you’ve got to remember Summer went to prison for it, so it could be a slight betrayal and there might be a bit of tension there,” Bibby told us at the TRIC Awards on Tuesday.

“Summer does have a feisty side, but she is also very understanding and can put things into perspective. I think that is one thing Billy always taught her to do. So it is going to go one way or another, we will see.”
After being released from prison, it seems that Summer will stick around in Weatherfield, despite her previous plan to go back to America to complete her studies.
“I think America is always in the background in Summer’s mind, it is something she can escape to,” Bibby confirmed, but shared hopes for Summer to stay put on the cobbles.
“Hopefully things will get brighter and she’ll stay in Weatherfield but if things get any worse then it might be a little escape route.”

Addressing a potential romance on the horizon for Summer, Bibby stated that her character needs to find some stability after losing father figure Billy Mayhew in the soap’s crossover with Emmerdale, titled Corriedale.
“She has been romance light but she’s been going through the mill with her family. I think for me personally, I want to see Summer settled before she pursues anything,” Bibby said.
“I think she just needs to find her happiness and stabilise herself after Billy. She needs to look after herself before anyone else.”
