Coronation Street’s Gemma and Chesney are rocked by bad news that will impact their whole family

Gemma and Chesney Winter-Brown are hit with bad news

Gemma and Chesney Winter-Brown (Dolly-Rose Campbell and Sam Aston) have their work cut out in Coronation Street, balancing childcare for five kids with their own careers.

Unfortunately, things look set to get even more difficult for the family when they get bad news in upcoming scenes.

Joseph Brown (William Flanagan) sheepishly hands Gemma and Chesney a school report next week, making a swift exit before they finish reading and notice that he is often late with his homework.

Viewers will know that Joseph attends a private school, with his tuition fees paid for by grandmother Linda Hancock (Jacqueline Leonard).

Linda was the mother of Joseph’s mum, Katy Armstrong. Katy died in a car accident in 2017.

After reading his school report, Gemma laments to Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) that Joseph has fallen behind with his homework because he can’t concentrate at home. Understandable, given that he has four younger siblings.

Joseph Brown falls behind on his schoolwork

When Bernie suggests that Joseph come to No.7 to get his homework done in peace, Chesney is grateful, but his mood is later crushed when he hears from Linda.

Calling at the Rovers, Chesney breaks the news to Gemma that Linda’s holiday rental business has gone bust, and she can no longer afford Joseph’s school fees.

There is further bad news about Joseph’s schooling ahead

Not wanting to further unsettle Joseph’s education, Chesney tells Gemma that he’s been looking into taking out a loan to cover the fees. Bernie is horrified by the prospect that they could end up in debt.

Linda and Bernie have previously clashed over Linda’s frivolous spending, so it is no wonder that this has upset her.

The next day, things take a sudden turn when Gemma and Chesney tell Joseph that Linda has managed to find the cash for his tuition fees. But where has the money come from?
