Coronation Street star in shock comeback after NINE years off-screen – for THIRD role on the soap
CORONATION Street is bringing back a star in a shock comeback – nine years after her last appearance.
Actress Emma Matthews has returned to filming on the iconic Weatherfield cobbles after her last ITV show stint nine years ago, in 2017.
Back then, the 45-year-old played Fiona Crowley, the social worker who removed Abi Webster’s twins from her after she relapsed into drug addiction.
It was a very short appearance, spanning only two episodes in October of that year.
Before that she played a nurse in Corrie‘s Weatherfield General and appeared intermittently between 2012 and 2015.
While Emma is currently starring in David Walliams’ Billionaire Boy in the West End’s Garrick Theatre, after directing a play at a Manchester theatre, she will be back on the street soon.
Yet soap bosses have kept her brand new role tightly under wraps – leaving fans on tenterhooks.
Broadcaster ITV had no comment when approached by The Sun.
Emma’s soap return comes as she juggles her acting career with a brand new qualification.
The screen star is studying a Masters qualification in Theatre Directing, and recently directed the Beautiful Thing play to complete the final stages of her degree.
Bolton-born Emma has also starred in Prisoners’ Wives, Emmerdale and Casualty.
Back in 2013, she also opened her own stage school in Bury.
She told the Bury Times: “Opening another stage school was something I had always wanted to do and moving back to the area gave me that opportunity.
“We have lots of contacts in the industry including casting directors, agencies and TV and film companies, so many of the children we work with end up getting professional work”.
