Coronation Street

Alya makes a big decision on Coronation Street as crafty Idris looms

It’s decision time for Alya

When Idris Nazir (Junade Khan) first rocked up on Coronation Street, Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) welcomed her cousin with open arms. Oh, how things have changed.

The biggest change being, he’s not actually her cousin. Awks.

Every time a new character rocks up in a flashy car to play the hero and dispatch ne’er’do’wells harrassing our beloved regulars, audiences are always waiting for the other shoe to drop. That’s what happened with Idris, when he threw some troublesome customers out of Speed Daal, thus establishing his ‘nice guy’ credentials – to the residents of Coronation Street, at least.

Not only did this take young Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) under his wing, but he swept Leanne Battersby’s (Jane Danson) off her feet and into bed. Even Alya’s got nothing but positive vibes for her ‘cuz’.

The only person who got a bad word to say about Idris is Alya’s boyfriend Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) and let’s face it, he doesn’t like anyone.

Alya gave Idris a warm welcome… at first

This is Soapland however, so it goes without saying, Idris has a dark side.

On his very first day, he pinned poor Damo (Jake Parry) against the wall of the ginnel and terrified the poor man into paying the money he owed him.

Because obviously, Idris is not just a mild-mannered property developer. Oh no. That would be far too simple.

The truth is he is a ruthless slumlord whose lacklustre landlord practises caused the patch of black mold that put Abi Webster’s (Sally Carman-Duttine) son Alfie Franklin (Carter and Oakley Razak Townsend) in hospital with severe breathing difficulties, causing the Websters to need somewhere else to live.

He was also quite happy to use Brody to take care of his dirty work by kidnapping the previous landlord responsible for the damp and terrifying him for his mistake.

To make things extra awkward for Alya, Adam is representing Abi’s legal case against Idris. But the worst shock was yet to come.

When Idris tried to convince her into selling her share of Speel Daal, Alya was stunned to hear him drop a giant bombshell – he’s not Alya’s cousin, but her uncle.

Dig out your family trees, Corrie fans. Idris, it turns out, is the affair baby of Sharif, no good cheating ex husband of Alya’s gran Yasmeen (Shelley King). This makes Idris the half-brother of Alya”s dearly departed dad Kal (Jimmi Mistry), and therefore, Alya’s uncle – which Yasmeen always kept a secret from her.

Alya was rocked by Idris’ revelation

Digging this particular skeleton out of the Nazir family closet was all part of Idris’s ruthless plan to get his greedy mits on Speed Daal. He admitted to Leanne that while Alya had refused to part with the restaurant for Yasmeen’s sake, she may not be so loyal towards her gran after Yasmeen hid the truth for years.

Despite her shock,Alya was determined to stick to her guns and refused to let this latest development change her dynamic with Idris.

Until now. Upcoming scenes of Coronation Street will see Alya forced into parting with her family restaurant.

When Adam points out to Alya that she’s missed an important deadline and it’s time she chose between her legal career and the restaurant, Alya knows he’s right.

So Alya calls at Speed Daal and breaks the news to Leanne that she’s decided to sell her share of the business.

Alya has some big news for Leanne and Idris

When Leanne wonders who, Alya reveals she’s intending to sell to an old friend of the family.

Is she talking about Idris?
