Emmerdale

Two overjoyed Emmerdale favourites exit leaving lonely relative behind

It was a big decision

Two Emmerdale residents have exited – but not in the way you think.

Following Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) release from prison, Sarah and Jacob Sugden (Katie Hill and Joe-Warren Plant) made the decision that they would move out of the village and into Hotten.

The couple concluded that they could no longer live opposite Charity, who spent well over a year failing to tell them that baby Leyla was her and Ross Barton’s (Michael Parr) child, and not actually conceived through surrogacy.

Baby Leyla was born earlier this year, and Charity handed her over to an overjoyed Sarah and Jacob. She fully intended to keep the truth about Leyla hidden forever, but a blackmail plan from Doctor Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) meant things fell apart.

After Sarah accidentally killed Doctor Todd, Charity took the fall for her, believing this was the consequence she had to face for lying to her granddaughter.

When Sarah found out the truth about baby Leyla, she retaliated by telling the police that Charity intentionally killed Caitlin. However, the guilt got the better of her, and she retracted her statement.

Even though Sarah despised her gran for the lies, she couldn’t deal with her going to prison for a crime she didn’t commit. After discovering that DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) knew the truth about what happened to Todd, Sarah told her to help get Charity out of prison.

Charity was hopeful that she could get back on track with Sarah, and was heartbroken when she confirmed that their relationship was over.

Sarah and Jacob remained focused on finding a flat out of the village in tonight’s episode, but money was most certainly an issue.

Once he became aware of the predicament, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) suggested to Sarah and Jacob that they move into Emmerdale Farm.

It was a no brainer. Robert (Ryan Hawley) would love having another Sugden under his roof, and Jacob and Sarah would be far away from Charity, but still close to the village to see their other loved ones.

When Charity learnt about their departure, she struggled to feel happy for them.

She has caused a lot of damage by lying about baby Leyla, and accepting that Sarah didn’t want to be around her anymore, and may never forgive her, has left her feeling very lonely.
