The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Mayci Neeley denies ‘flirty’ text claims from Chase McWhorter

Season 4 brings back a years-old messaging dispute as Mayci Neeley explains why she believes her texts with Chase McWhorter were misunderstood and taken out of context

Mayci Neeley says her past messages with Chase McWhorter were not flirtatious, disputing his claims during Season 4 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

The reality star maintains that the exchange stemmed from a misunderstanding and that she initially reached out only to pursue a potential friendship between McWhorter and her husband, Jacob Neeley.

According to Mayci, the situation escalated after details about McWhorter’s involvement in a swinging lifestyle emerged later.

During the season, McWhorter presented portions of their text conversation, suggesting that Mayci contacted him first while both were married.

Mayci countered that she replied to a photo that did not even feature him and that her intention was social, not romantic.

She also said that plans for a group outing fell through after McWhorter withdrew the invitation.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives revisits a years-old controversy

The disputed messages become a central storyline in Season 4 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which premiered on March 12. In an interview with US Weekly, Mayci described the exchange as harmless at the time. She said,

“As far as the texting goes, I had no idea they were swingers. So I thought, ‘Oh, that’d be a fun friend for my husband.’ Because we had a double date prior to all of this. But I will say where the confusion lied is that my husband thought that he was flirting [via] texting and I was like, ‘No!’”

Mayci said she was surprised the topic resurfaced years later. McWhorter had previously been linked to Taylor Frankie Paul’s widely publicized soft-swinging scandal, which unfolded several years before the events of the current season. He has since divorced his wife, Miranda.

Mayci argued that editing contributed to the perception of flirtation. She said,

“There’s a scene that was cut where Chase was acting like I was hitting him up. So I’m like, ‘First of all, you are the furthest thing away from my type. It’s not even funny. I wouldn’t even touch you with a 10-foot pole.’ But also, it did bug me a little bit watching it back.”

She acknowledged that viewers might still interpret the footage differently.

“I don’t know how people are gonna take that because I could see people being like, ‘Oh, she was flirting with him.’”

According to Mayci, she provided producers with the full message history. She said,

“But I guess they only showed a little bit of it. It wasn’t flirty at all, and I don’t think he was being flirty. I think the fact that we found out he’s a swinger later, we were like, ‘Why was he inviting us to a cabin party?’”

The timeline has become a point of contention. Mayci said the events occurred years earlier and had already been resolved privately.

“This is also freaking four years ago. The fact that it’s resurfacing now, this is anything to make himself relevant.”

She also referenced information she heard from others connected to the situation.

“I did hear things that I won’t even say about this. But Taylor’s ex-husband [Tate Paul] said that Chase was saying [things] about me. But again, we can leave that there and give me the benefit of the doubt. We’ve moved past this.”

Support for Mayci came from fellow cast member Mikayla Matthews, who questioned the timing of the allegations. Matthews said,

“That’s why I hold grudges. Because I’m very big on the timing, and he has proven himself time and time again to be the same person he was three years ago, leading up to now. I think it’s convenient timing. I think there’s an agenda and we love to see a toxic man on the show [so] another one [added] to the roster.”

By presenting both perspectives, the show frames the incident as a matter of interpretation rather than a confirmed fact.

McWhorter’s claims and Mayci’s denial remain unresolved on screen, leaving viewers to assess the credibility of each account.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is currently streaming on Hulu.
