Emmerdale’s Danny Miller reveals co-star who helped him stop drinking

Danny revealed that Isabel has supported his sobriety journey

Emmerdale’s Danny Miller has heaped praise on his long-time co-star Isabel Hodgins, while revealing that she was the one who inspired his sobriety journey, on which he recently reached a massive milestone.

Danny has been keeping fans up to date via social media, recently announcing that he had completed a whole year without alcohol, after realising the negative impact it was having on his life and deciding to eliminate it.

According to him, though, Isabel was the inspiration, and as she made a special appearance on his podcast, You Don’t Know You’re Born!, he took the opportunity to publicly praise her.

‘Isabel was actually the inspiration… I’m going to say this quickly or I’ll cry,’ he began, to which she playfully turned her back to him.

‘Isabel was the inspiration behind me [going sober] and I can remember, to the day, when it was.

‘It was a Friday, and I remember this because the last day I had a drink was a Thursday night, when I thought everything was going to be over for me, and on the Friday morning, I was with Isabel and I asked her, ‘How do I stop drinking?’ And she was amazing with me. She was the inspiration behind it.’

Danny went on to talk about how Isabel had marked both his six-month and year alcohol-free marks with sobriety chips, a physical token of success usually used within 12-step programs to celebrate recovery milestones.

‘She’s brought in her very own year token to say well done to me and she was the inspiration behind it and a massive reason I’m still not drinking today.’

Speaking directly to his co-star and friend, Danny said: ‘that’s why you’ll always be one of my best friends in the world and I’ll always be thankful.’

Isabel, beaming with pride, replied: ‘I’m glad I could help because the person you are now, I could not be more proud. So well done you!’

Danny recently took to Instagram and shared images of him taken a year apart to highlight the physical effects his new lifestyle has had on him.

‘It’s not until you see old pictures that you realise how much you’ve changed,’ he began the caption.

‘Looking at the photo on the left, I remember feeling run down, tired and constantly putting myself at the bottom of the priority list.

‘Like a lot of parents, I was so busy trying to be everything for everyone else that I forgot to look after myself.

‘To be the best husband I can be. To be the best dad I can be. I first needed to be the best Danny I could be.

‘The photo on the right isn’t about being perfect. It’s about feeling healthier, happier and having more energy for the people who matter most.

‘Still a work in progress, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come.’

Danny announced his one year mile stone last month, with an Instagram video explaining his reasoning behind giving up booze.

‘I knew I had a bit of an issue with it. I fell down a rabbit hole with drinking. Steph has been an absolute rock throughout it, despite me itching for a drink every now and again.’

‘I’m not an alcoholic by any means. I wanted to better myself, my family, for my career, for my children mainly.

‘Every single water park, theme park event that we used to go with the kids, I’d always have to just check there’s a bar first then I could enjoy myself. It was beyond control, now I’ve changed my ways.

‘I wanted them to get the best version of me without me being frustrated that they were there and they were present when I wasn’t.’
