‘Big decision’ looms for Cruz Hewitt amid Federer twin romance whispers

After a moment at Wimbledon sparked speculation, Bec and Lleyton’s son is eyeing a big move.

Weeks after sources told Woman’s Day of Cruz Hewitt’s close friendship with one of tennis legend Roger Federer’s twin girls, it seems the young sportsman is eyeing up a bold move.

The 17-year-old son of former Aussie tennis star Lleyton Hewitt and his wife Bec, was spotted enthusiastically greeting fellow 17-year-olds Myla and Charlene Federer as he entered the junior boys’ final at Wimbledon in July.

He was also snapped sitting alongside them in the stands at the Australian Open – and the moments triggered speculation that romance might be in the air between Cruz and Myla.

“It makes sense that Cruz Hewitt and Myla Federer would at least be mates. Cruz has always been close to Myla and her twin Charlene,” an insider previously told Woman’s Day.

“If they are really an item, then for both sets of parents, it would be a relief of sorts because they each know that they have grown up together with very similar values.”

Cruz Hewitt sat alongside Myla and Charlene Federer at the Australian Open.

Now, sources say Cruz is thrilled that the Federer family has taken him under their wing, and he’s been in his dad’s ear to discuss a potential move to Switzerland to further his tennis career and be closer to the twins.

“[The Federers] adore him and Cruz thinks it could be a win-win,” the insider explains. “Be close to the girls but also have Roger as a mentor.”

The source claims Lleyton isn’t opposed to the idea, but he wants his son to “keep his eyes on the prize” – and that’s tennis glory not girlfriends.

“For now, he needs to stay focused on winning tournaments and training,” the source adds.

Bec and Lleyton reportedly want Cruz to focus on his career.

“Cruz has definitely got Switzerland on the brain though. He loves being around the Federer family and can see the appeal of having that kind of tennis knowledge right on his doorstep.”

But Bec and Lleyton are said to be reminding their son that moving countries is “a pretty big decision”.

“Roger is obviously the big attraction from a professional point of view. Cruz knows there are very few people in the world who could give him the kind of insight Roger can,” the mole goes on.

“The idea of being able to train, talk tennis and pick his brain whenever he needed to is incredibly appealing.”

Cruz impressed fans with his performance at Wimbledon.

While Cruz apparently thinks the move could be the “perfect set-up” for success, his mum and dad reportedly want him to focus on one thing at a time.

“Lleyton understands why Cruz is excited about it, but he’s also been around tennis long enough to know how quickly distractions can creep in. He’s not shutting the door on Switzerland, but he wants Cruz to earn the right to make those big decisions by putting the work in first.”
