Another Emmerdale village killer prompts Sarah to go to the police about Todd

It doesn’t take much

Emmerdale’s Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) is not a killer. She’s tried to dabble in the ways of the Dingles by stealing cars and petty crime. But a killer, she is not.

So accidentally offing Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) with an innocent-ish shove was not on Sarah’s bingo card and now she’s struggling to deal with it.

‘She doesn’t have it in her,’ actress Katie Hill told Metro, although this was not new news. ‘…she doesn’t even know how to process it. She can’t comprehend that this has happened’.

What’s worse is that her gran Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) is taking the fall for it, and the guilt is crushing her. ‘Sarah just spirals,’ Katie reveals. Charity is taking the fall to protect Sarah, to allow her to be the mum she’s always dreamed of being, given that her life expectancy is shorter than most.

But she and Charity are struggling to keep their stories straight, and they’re too far in to back out now.

Sarah’s guilt goes through the roof when some unsolicited advice comes from someone unexpected and she all but loses her grip.

Sarah and Bear have something in common

Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) talks to her about his own anguish at killing Ray, lamenting on Charity’s own struggle as killer, which is really Sarah’s.

The day of Todd’s funeral arrives, and Sarah is not holding it together at all.

Charity tries to arrange a family meal to detract from the day at hand, but it has the opposite effect.

Katie revealed: ‘Any mention of Todd, she [Sarah] sees Todd there on the floor again. It’s really difficult for her, so Charity tries to think of a way to get Sarah feeling better, and she organises a family dinner to get everyone to come round and try to make things feel a bit more normal again, which doesn’t go to plan because something else comes into the works. It’s a really tricky period for her, and the funeral just drags it all back up for her.’

That something else is DS Ramsden, a dog with a bone determined to close this case with Charity at the centre of it. She interrupts the dinner to take Charity down the station where Ramsden slaps Charity with the latest bit of bad news – the forensics and her story do not add up, particularly the evidence of her fighting off Todd.

Sarah’s guilt quickly becomes too much

Sarah is horrified and decides she needs to come clean, which is not Serena’s (Casey Al-Shaqsy) next move of choice as it would also implicate her. Serena must now come up with a plan to stop her.

But in the process, there could be more devastation on the cards for Sarah. Like she doesn’t yet know the full truth about Leyla, but that secret can’t possibly stay secret for much longer.

Speaking of Sarah finding out, Katie said: ‘It would destroy her whole world. Charity has given her the best gift she ever could have asked for, so, for that to be taken away from her, it will definitely cause issues in their relationship.’

So accidentally killing Todd could end up being the least of her worries. What’s next for the worried new mum?
