Coronation Street confirms Jodie’s fate after death fears

She’s always up to something

The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Coronation Street dated May 6. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.

Jodie Ramsey’s (Olivia Frances-Brown) fate has been confirmed following fears she’s been kidnapped.

Last week, a series of flashback episodes aired prior to us learning who the dead body belonged to that was discovered by Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin).

During the instalment that focused on Jodie, her plan to destroy sister Shona Platt’s (Julia Goulding) life took another dark turn when her past started catching up with her.

A young teen called Olivia, who Jodie used to look after, paid a visit to the cobbles. Once she was faced with the girl, Jodie tried to throw her out of the house.

She was then confronted by Shona, and told her sister what may have been either the truth, or a pack of lies, about stealing a hard drive from her dangerous ex, Olivia’s dad, as an insurance policy so he wouldn’t kill her.

Horrified that her sister had brought danger to her doorstep, Shona told Jodie to get as far away from Coronation Street as possible – for her own sake as much as her family’s.

Also in the same episode, Jodie managed to trick David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) into very nearly cheating on Shona with her. After sending a text to David from Shona’s phone, Jodie got dressed in her lingerie and waited for a drunk David to return.

Fortunately, things didn’t go too far as David quickly realised what was going on. He confessed this to Shona yesterday, but the fact that her sister attempted to steal her husband isn’t bothering her as much as what it should.

This is because Shona remains deeply worried about where Jodie has gone. Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) told her that the police are treating Jodie’s disappearance as a kidnapping, and are wondering if the thugs that were in Weatherfield last week have something to do with it.

David and Shona are at odds

In today’s instalment, a worried Shona left Jodie another voicemail. She told her sister that what happened between her and David doesn’t matter, and that all she’s worrying about is whether she’s okay.

In the precinct, Jodie was sat on the swings listening to Shona’s message. She smiled and then saved the voicemail, which suggests Jodie might use this to her advantage in the near future.

She then popped her headphones in and started listening to music, happy with the fact Shona and David are at odds as a result of her actions.

Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks recently revealed what lies ahead for Jodie over the next few weeks, confirming that she still believes she’s entitled to the life Shona is living.

Shona feared that Jodie had been kidnapped

‘She is desperately trying to get what she feels is rightfully hers. She has a real soft spot for David, and she sees this life that shown was built, and she thinks, why couldn’t that be?’, she said.

‘That could be me, that should be my life. She could have had a normal kind of life with a family and a dog named after the father in the family. She’s still definitely kind of on that trajectory, but David and Shona are a really strong, united couple. They adore each other. They love each other. They’ve been through a lot.

Kate added: ‘We’ve obviously got Harper still in hospital. Ultimately, Harper will come home and the stresses of family life will start to really take its toll. Whether Jodie is able to exploit those weaknesses within that relationship, whether she’s able to kind of tempt David over to the dark side, or because she wants to punish Shona for leaving her, she’s certainly going to try and come between them.

‘But as I say, David and Shona are pretty solid couple. It’s whether they can unite and see Jodie for who she is and what she is in time.’
