EastEnders star responds to Den and Angie comparisons for Cindy and Max

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Michelle Collins has responded to comparisons between her character Cindy Beale’s storyline with Max Branning and Den and Angie Watts. Scenes earlier this week saw Max get down on one knee to propose to Cindy at Vicki Fowler and Ross Marshall’s wedding.

While she initially rejected him, Cindy changed her mind and accepted the proposal – unaware that Max cheated on her after the wedding with Priya Nandra-Hart.

Michelle has now addressed potential similarities between their match and the infamously toxic relationship between Den and Angie in the soap’s early days, calling it “such a compliment”.

“A few people have said that, it’s the Den and Angie kind of relationship,” she said on Lorraine. “Everyone loves them, and they weren’t even there that long but people still talk about it. I think it’s that sparring, that gives it that spark.”

She added: “I like working with Jake [Wood]. He’s a bit crazy like me. We both like a drama in life, and they are kind of chaotic.”

Speaking further about Cindy and Max, Michelle noted that there is “a very fine line between love and hate” among the pair.

“Cindy didn’t ever know Max, their paths didn’t really cross,” she said. “She hated him, he’s had a lot of history with her children. I think she was determined not to like him from the very beginning. But as you’ve seen, they’re quite similar.

“I know it’s a bit overused, that narcissistic kind of word, but I think they kind of are. They’ve both been in prison. If she did get married, [this would be] her third marriage. It would be his fifth, apparently.

“They have very complicated families, estranged children… so it could be a marriage made in heaven or it could be complete and utter hell and chaos.”

Meanwhile, the soap recently made a last minute change after Michelle suffered a real-life accident, with Cindy seen on screen in crutches.
