Watch the moment Emmerdale’s Nicola Wheeler swears and admits ‘she’s drunk’ as she accepts soap award at boozy bash

SOAP star Nicola Wheeler can be seen living her best boozy life on stage and picking up a TRIC Award for Emmerdale – while admitting she’s ‘really drunk’.
The Nicola King actor – who joined the soap in 2001 – took to the stage in good spirits as she spoke on behalf of the ITV soap in a sweary, joke-filled tribute.

The serial won best soap at the TRIC Awards in London yesterday – and Nicola flew the flag for Emmerdale at the annual star-studded awards.
Leading the pack, she told the audience: “Thank you so much to the TRIC Awards – and thank you so much to…

“I’m really drunk – I’m really sorry.
“I’ve been on this show for 26 years and they’ve never, ever asked me to say a speech – and the reason is because I’m the alcoholic on the show.
“I’m kidding! But I am the party girl.”
She continued: “I’ve had a wonderful, wonderful time. When I first joined Emmerdale, it was brilliant.

“I’d done loads of little bits of drama and I joined Emmerdale and I went, ‘Oh, it’s a tight schedule’, and then I went, ‘Oh, it’s an even f***ing tighter budget’.
“But that’s a joke. I want to introduce you to Lisa Riley MBE.
“Thank you to everyone who voted for us. I want to don the cap to our fellow nominees… Coronation Street.
“We love you and thank you so much. And you know what, I would just say to everybody here television is changing and the way viewers watch us is changing.

“But you know what, we appreciate what you do and we respect what you do and I hope your programmes carry on for a long, long time. Thank you.”
The shocked audience laughed as they watched her wild speech play out.
The actress – who also played Melanie Tindel in Corrie in 1999 – previously won Best B*tch at the 2006 British Soap Awards and was nominated for Villain of the Year in 2002, 2008 and 2009.
Elsewhere, Emmerdale swept the board in another category.
In addition to being named Soap of the Year, Cain Dingle actor Jeff Hordley was deemed Best Soap Actor by the TRIC board.
