Coronation Street: what happened to Yasmeen Nazir and where is she now?
Long time no see.

Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Yasmeen Nazir has long been away from Coronation Street, leaving her beloved Speed Daal restaurant in the hands of her granddaughter Alya. But this Tuesday’s (28 July) instalment of the ITV soap revealed what she’s been up to since leaving the cobbles.
Played by Shelley King, Yasmeen first arrived on the Street in 2014 alongside her husband Sharif Nazir, son Kal and grandchildren, Alya and Zeedan. The family soon became an important part of life in Weatherfield, with Yasmeen eventually becoming a co-owner of Speed Daal with Alya.

But Yasmeen’s life was far from straightforward. Her marriage to Sharif came crashing down after it was revealed that he’d been having a secret seven-year affair with their family friend Sonia Rahman.
Yasmeen was devastated by the betrayal and ordered Sharif to leave Weatherfield, later divorcing him. She was also heartbroken by the death of her son Kal, who was killed in the Victoria Court fire in 2015 after helping to rescue Leanne Battersby and Amy Barlow. But her darkest period came when she met Geoff Metcalfe.
At first, Geoff appeared to be a charming and caring partner, but his behaviour soon became increasingly controlling. He isolated Yasmeen from the people around her and subjected her to emotional and psychological abuse, with his coercive control eventually escalating into violence.
In 2020, Yasmeen reached breaking point when Geoff threatened her. Fearing for her life, she stabbed him in the neck with a broken bottle. Arrested and charged with attempted murder, despite having spent months being abused by Geoff, Yasmeen struggled to understand the situation, but she was eventually found not guilty, allowing her to rebuild her life.
Geoff’s reign of terror came to an end when he fell from the roof of No.6 Coronation Street during a confrontation involving Yasmeen and Alya. Yasmeen eventually found happiness with Stu Carpenter, but their relationship also came to an end as he left the cobbles for Germany in late 2024. By early 2025, Yasmeen was ready for a fresh start away from Weatherfield.

Yasmeen left the cobbles in March 2025 after receiving a new job opportunity with a charity in London, selling her share of Speed Daal to Leanne Battersby. The character is now understood to be living in London helping victims of modern slavery, although Alya also mentioned she’d been taking a holiday in Pakistan this Tuesday.
Yasmeen’s story returned to the spotlight this Tuesday, thanks to Idris’s arrival earlier this year. Idris Nazir initially appeared to be Alya’s cousin. He quickly became involved in the family business and started a relationship with Leanne, but Corrie’s most recent instalment revealed there was more to his connection with the Nazir clan than initially believed.
Alya has been struggling to balance her legal career with her responsibilities at Speed Daal, prompting Idris to suggest selling her share of the restaurant. When Alya explained that Speed Daal had originally been her brother Zeedan’s dream and that she’d taken on responsibility for it after Yasmeen’s departure, Idris dropped a bombshell.

He revealed that he isn’t actually Alya’s cousin – he’s her uncle. Idris explained that Sharif also had an affair with his mother, making him Sharif’s son and therefore Kal’s half-brother. That makes Idris Alya and Zeedan’s uncle.
But the biggest shock came moments later when Idris claimed Yasmeen was well aware of his parentage and had chosen to keep it a secret. He suggested that the revelation should make Alya question her loyalty to Yasmeen and the family business.
For now, Yasmeen remains in London, with no indication that she has returned to Weatherfield to clear her name. But after everything that has happened to her, her family has once again been thrown into chaos – and this time, it’s a secret from her own past that could have major consequences – but is Idris telling the truth?
